Carissa Price of Manawatu-Wanganui had a weekend to remember up in the Bay of Plenty, winning seven out of eight matches on her way to her 2nd Women’s AC Invitational title. Whakatane Croquet Club played host to some of New Zealand’s best AC players, in a tournament that had significant importance as a rehearsal for next year’s Women’s World Championship in Canterbury.
With 5 of the 9 players having already qualified for next year’s World Champs, Price set down a marker of standard in an impressive display, finishing the weekend with +65 net hoops to take the Edna Willis Silver Salver. Her only loss of the weekend came to 2nd placed Carolyn Fordyce (South Canterbury) in a close 10-8 match. Fordyce was also impressive across the weekend, winning six matches with +29 net hoops.
Third place was tightly contested, with three players winning five of their matches. In the end, it was some big wins by Whakatane local Cindy Clarke (Bay of Plenty) which got her into third place. Her +36 net hoops a shade above +32 from Dallas Cooke (Bay of Plenty) and Baubre Murray (Wellington) with +19.
