Nicola Clement wins Women’s GC Championship

Takapuna CC Takapuna Club in Auckland hosted the CNZ Women’s GC Championship on 19/20 October, with a full complement of 16 players representing seven Associations, South Taranaki, Thames Valley, Waikato-King Country, Northland, Counties-Manukau, Bay of Plenty and Auckland.

The first day’s play consisted of 2 seeded round robin blocks of eight players, followed on the second day with knockout play.

Block A saw Nicola Clement (South Taranaki), Beverley Davison and Vanessa Hanna (both Waikato-King Country), and Melba Scott (Auckland) qualify for the knockout. They were joined by Pat Anderton (Thames Valley), Theresa Jessop (Bay of Plenty), Christine Newton (Waikato-King Country) and Under 21 player Mattie Clarkson (Counties-Manukau) from Block B.

The Championship Winner was Nicola Clement from South Taranaki winning the final against Melba Scott from Auckland. This Best of 3 Final was keenly played out in three games by Nicola and Melba.

Melba Scott also had the highest placing in the 3+ award.

The Plate Winner was Jean Kent from Northland.

The tournament was a good weekend of great play, fine weather, fast lawns, good food, interesting women and a good camaraderie amongst the players.

CNZ would like to thank the Auckland Association, the Takapuna Croquet Club, the manager Anne Mortimer, referee Neil Bendall and all volunteers involved which have come from across six Auckland clubs.
