The Waikanae Croquet Club hosted the CNZ Women’s AC Invitation Event from 10 to 12 November. Eight players were selected for the three day event to play a single round robin.
Friday saw three rounds played, with Saturday and Sunday each having a further two rounds completed. The weather did its part with Friday and Saturday beautiful days, while Sunday saw the wind picking up a bit.
From the get go Alison Robinson (Wellington) and Bonnie Johnstone (South Taranaki) set the standard winning all their games on day one. Both players ended up dropping a game before the final round, with both losing to Carolyn Fordyce (South Canterbury). This meant that Carolyn joint Alison and Bonnie on five wins from six games, before the start of the last round.
Based on net hoops, the eventual winner had to come from the game between top seed Alison Robinson and second seed Bonnie Johnstone. The ‘final’ saw Bonnie taking control of the game and winning comfortably 26:8.
This is Bonnie’s first win in the Women’s AC Invitation Event. Congratulations!
A big thank you to the Waikanae Croquet Club for hosting the event, to the manager, referees and all the volunteers for making the tournament a success.
