Jenny Clarke (Canterbury) won the Silver Medal at the 2023 Over 50’s World Championship in Golf Croquet in Bunbury, Western Australia.
After an impeccable performance in block play, winning all five matches 2:0, Jenny continued her form through the knockout stages. Jenny only dropped two games on her way to reach the final.
In the best of 5 final on Saturday, Jenny faced the 2015 GC World Champion (Open) Ahmed El Mahdy from Egypt. Ahmed won the 2015 title in Mount Maunganui.
Continuing her strong form Jenny took the first game, before Ahmed managed to get into his rhythm. Ahmed slowly took control of the match with some impressive hoop running and ultimately winning the match 3:1 (4:7, 7:2, 7:4, 7:0).
Despite falling at the last hurdle, Jenny showed some outstanding play throughout the tournament. Congratulations Jenny!
Three of our other five players also reached the knock-out stages with John Christie (Thames Valley) reaching the last 16, Brian Bullen (Wellington) going one further reaching the quarterfinals, and Nelson Morrow (Auckland) being unlucky to draw Jenny in the first round of the knockout.
Helen Reeves and Ricky Clement continued play in Plate Event.
Congratulations to all our players for a successful campaign.
